Makhubo, absent, wins Work Rider’s Challenge

TOP class Abram Makhubo, who has landed a riding contract in Korea and could not participate at the final meeting of the Work Riders’ Challenge at Turffontein on Monday, Â managed to finish on top of the log and claim the R20,000 prize.
Makhubo had to hang on tight out as Jackson Feni threatened to close the gap. At the end of the day Feni, with one winner and several places at the meeting, had earned a further 31 points to accumulate a total of 61. Feni was still 13 points shy of Makhubo’s 74 when the tallies were added.
There was a tie for third place between Chamu Mabaya and Simphiwe Tshaka and they will share the R5,000 prize for third place.
Feni, though beaten on four favourites, Â claimed the R5,000 for the best performance on the day as well as the R10,000 second overall prize.
The trainers’ title went to Sean Tarry with 92 points. Paul Matchett finished second and Lance Wiid third.
