Shaw and Crabbia race Singapore’s Rocket!
Published by charl on April 29, 2009
TRAINER Patrick Shaw’s undefeated three-year-old Rocket Man is the highest rated galloper in Singapore after his breathtaking victory in the Group 1 Lion City Cup over 1200m last Friday night.
The Patrick Shaw-trained sprinter rose to a rating of 115 after accounting for Lim’s Fighter and Onceuponatime in the first Group 1 event of the 2009 season. It was Rocket Man’s seventh successive victory for SA-based owner Fred Crabbia.
Mike Wanklin, Vice President (Racing) and Head of Handicapping, said Rocket Man fully deserved his position as Singapore’s highest rated horse.
“The one thing he hadn’t done prior to last Friday night was to prove himself at weight-for-age,” said Wanklin.
“He’s done that now and in the process he has proved himself the best horse in Singapore after easily defeating the next three highest rated horses in Waikato, Capablanca and Top Spin at weight-for-age in virtually course record time.”
Shaw said the son of Viscount was given an easy few days to recover from his most important test to date.
“He’s come out of the race very well and we can now concentrate on getting him ready for the KrisFlyer,” said Shaw.
The Group 1 $1million KrisFlyer International Sprint over 1200m will be run on Sunday May 17. He is likely to bump South Afrocan contender, Mythical Flight, trained by Sean Tarry. - extracted from report on thoroughbrednews.co.nz, edited.
