SA punters can follow trainer Dascombe for profit!
Published by charl on September 18, 2009
YOUTHFUL UK-based Tom Dascombe will be the trainer to follow in 2010. Tom says the many South African punters who love to take a flutter on UK racing can keep a close eye on his runners next season.
Tom w€ill be remembered by many as the assistant who worked with South Arica’s Victory Moon in Dubai and England back in 2003.
On 4 August it was announced that Tom is to join footballer Michael Owen and Betfair’s Andrew Black to train at their yard, Manor House Stables in Malpas, Cheshire.
Tom is excited and he told racingweb: “It’s a big move, especially with a family involved, but it’s a great opportunity all the same and Michael and I get on very well.”
Tom, under the banner of Onewayracing, will continue to train in Lambourn until December, but is already responsible for what happens at Manor House Stables, which is being run on a day to day basis by his assistant Colin Gorman.
Horses based at Lambourn will be transferred to Manor House in coming weeks and Tom commented. “Altogether we have over 120 horses now but we will be cutting the string down, getting rid of he battlers. The ideal is to have a competitive bunch, around 80 or so, with most of them young, unraced horses. They are building extra stables at Manor House to accommodate more.
Already stabled at Manor House are horses owned by the proprietor’s footballing colleagues Nicky Butt, Alan Shearer, Jonathan Woodgate and Paul Scholes, which will bring Tom right into the celebrity limelight.
He’s up to the challenge and says: “I will be concentrating on sending out a host of quick winners, it will be nice to start with a bang. The flat season ends now and I don’think we’ll be racing on the all-weather track during winter because I want to focus fully on tuning the first runners for next year. I want our first meeting of the new season to be a great one!”
Tom’s 52 winners in 2009 (bettering the 43 of the previous year) from a relatively small string clearly promises a career worth following and we wish him well.
