Charl Pretorius discusses races 2 – 8 and provides his PA selection for Greyville Night Racing on Friday 30 October 2009:

Race 2

No. 4 – Our Kate – I’m starting off tonight’s PA with this filly as a banker. I really think she’s worth following and that she’s ready to win after that good run to Kwela Kwela. The form is there, she has the services of Felix Coetzee, she’s proven to have had better runs in blinkers and she should win tonight.

Race 3

No. 2 – Chic Happens – Looking at race 4 at Turffontein yesterday, where Rosetta won and in so doing, beat Smanjemanje by a few lengths. It’s worth noting that the second placed horse, Silver Ending, beat Chic Happens on 5 August over 1200m. So that is now a very good form line. This filly also prefers running in blinkers.

No. 14 – Height of Humour – I’m also including this filly from the in form Lafferty stable. She had a very good debut over 1450m and she should run well here.

Race 4

No. 5 – Roman Splendour – This horse was my initial banker selection in this race but my concern is that this is his second run after a rest.

No. 8 – Saffron Blue – Is worth including as a cover. Felix Coetzee has got the ride on this Gavin van Zyl-trained colt.

Race 5

No. 2 – Fort Announce – He’s having his third run after being gelded. Note that apprentice Greyling gets 4kgs off the 59.5kgs, in what is already a very competitive MR66 Handicap. We can expect a shock result here, so I advise covering with other horses.

No. 1 – Surge Blanco – Rested after a good win in a fair race, he’s worth including.

No. 4 – Just Jettin’ Along – She had a very nice run last time in a similar class and she should be included in all permutations tonight.

No. 12 – Al’s Joy – She’s out of the same form line as No. 4, and before that she beat Ice Blink. Apprentice Mgudlwa claims 4kgs off the 56kgs, which will also help to make this mare more competitive.

No. 3 – Song of Russia – Also worth considering, as an extra inclusion is this tough race.

Race 6

No. 4 – Royal Day – This outsider is my selection for this race. Off his merit rating of 85, he is always dangerous. This horse loves the course and distance and at his best he is very capable.

No. 1 – Lion’s Blood – I was quite impressed with his last Greyville run at level weights to Tropical Empire. Tonight he comes back to 1900m, which he seems more suited to and I think he’ll run a big race.

Race 7

No. 1 – King Fernando – This colt by Parade Leader looks the part for this race. He’s a nice big, strong, improving horse and always gives of his best and wins impressively. He’s in with a big chance tonight.

No. 7 – Champion Empire – He was a very impressive winner of his last start and there were some nice horses behind him, including Pieces of Eight that won after that race.

Race 8

No. 1 – Zizou – I was impressed with the way this horse won last time and I considered bankering him then. There was a big word out for him and he then went on to win a very good race. He’s probably better suited over 1600m, as he’s previously won over this distance. He likes the course and I don’t feel that the 14 draw will be a concern because the false rail is out at 12m tonight, so it will probably benefit those horses drawn wide. More than likely the draws will be of no significance tonight.

No. 4 – Cotton Club (BRZ) – He gets my second PA vote in this race.

No. 3 – Emerald Wells (NZ) – Considering this horse’s wide draw and the likely swing from the false rail, he’s definitely worth considering here.
