Arabian Mist quickens clear, more to come
Published by charl on November 29, 2009
ARABIAN MIST is not near as famous as his illustrious half-brother Nhlavini, who retired as SA’s grand sprinting star in 2006, but he’s one cracking sprinter himself. Gary Alexander’s runner was reminiscent of Nhlavini in the way he quickly put daylight between himself and his rivals, winning Saturday’s R450 000 Grade 2 Defy Merchants over 1200m under Karis Teetan.
Nhlavini won 15 races including several Grade 1 sprints. Arabian Mist is halfway to the number of wins and with a good season or two ahead of him might well also get on the Grade 1 Roll before he retires.
“I kept him covered for as long as possible as Mr Alexander told me,” said Teetan, who pulled the gelding into space with 200m to run.
“There was some overnight rain and while he doesn’t like it too soft, Arabian Mist enjoyed the going,” said Alexander.
