Flamboyant Stakes to sort hotties from the notties!
Published by charl on January 2, 2010
THE first KZN race meeting of 2010 takes place tonight at Greyville and we get a graded feature to kick start the decade in these parts, writes LEON SETARO. The Flamboyant Stakes for fillies and mares carries Grade 3 status and promises to split the hotties from the notties in a strong lineup of KZN upstarts.
The betting will have us believe that the only visitor in the race, No.1 Captain’s Gal has this field at her mercy. She opened at 15/10 and has since shortened into 12/10. Granted she does bring strong and consistent feature race form into the contest but it will be no walkover for her and the price represents poor value at best.
Everyone loves a hottie!
No.2 Clarkie’s Promise (5/1) has won her last 3 in eye catching fashion and she appears to have the talent required to win a race of this nature. Should contest the finish.
No.3 Spanish Wisdom (14/1) is ultra consistent but may find this field beyond her capabilities.
No.4 Lizzy’s Heritage (14/1) has a hat trick of wins to her credit and promised much early last year before losing momentum. Her last run was decent and she is in with a place chance if improving further.
No.5 Maritime Mist (20/1) is a very decent filly but needs further to show her best.
No.6 Nordic Moon (20/1) needs to find improvement to have any sort of chance in this field.
No. 8 Silvery Cove (33/1) Nothing to recommend
No.9 Tea Break (25/1) Very disappointing last effort but comes in with a chance on previous two easy wins. Well priced don’t ignore.
No.10 Smangaliso (33/1) has failed to reproduce early promise.
No.11 Frozen Delicious (33/1) Appears outclassed here.
No.12 Eternal Flame (25/1) Tough task at this level.
No.13 In the Mist (8/1) is on the improve and could sneak a place.
No.14 Case Stated (5/1) Unbeaten in 3 starts and could be anything. Has a horrendous draw to overcome and will have to be something special to win from there.
16/1 tata ‘ma chance Touch the Moon (pictured) all set to reach for ‘hottie Hilton’ heights tonight at Greyville.
No.15 Touch the Moon (14/1) is the joker of the pack and must have a big chance of contesting the finish. She’s won her last two in fine style and was notably ‘fat’ for both. Should strip much fitter tonight and represents excellent value at 16/1
No.16 Il Tanga (25/1) Impressive maiden winner but well held on form by Tea Break and the unfancied Eternal Flame in this race.
No.17 Baranova (14/1) needs to show more before being considered at this level.

Best bet of the night looks to be No.4 Alif in the 2nd race. He meets little worth mentioning and should finally crack his maiden at the excellent price of 18/10.
