Interview with Assistant Trainer Dean Alexander for Vaal Racing on Thursday 11 March 2010:
Race 1
No. 2 – Bohemian Wood – His 2 best runs were over this course and distance. Today he reverts back to the mile up the straight and I think he’s a big runner.
No. 3 – Explore Tomorrow – He travels well and then he tends to lose his way towards the end but perhaps the skills of MJ Odendaal will make the difference today.
Race 5
No. 4 – Nenekazi – This race might be a bit sharp for this filly. We’ve been looking for a sand race in her division, over 1450m or 1600m but there has been nothing. It’s been difficult to place her but we’ve put her in this race just to keep her ticking over. She won well last time, she has some fair form and despite the drop in distance, I think she has a chance here.
No. 5 – Mahhala – She broke her maiden well last time but I think she’s got a bit more to do today. She has a place chance.
No. 7 – Just a Spark – She won a nice race a while back but then she lost her way. She’s having a run here just to get back to basics but if she finds her best form, she could run into the money.
Race 6
No. 3 – Feature Finder – This horse won his last race quite impressively and he did it in a competitive time of 70.23. That time compares well to the likes of
No. 4 – El Matador and No. 1 – Saint Stephen, so he is certainly in with a chance here. This horse has always shown us that he has ability and he looks like a horse that will go on from here.
Race 7
No. 5 – Burn Up – This is a decent horse that likes the course and distance. This looks like quite an open race but this horse is well, his work has been very good and I think he should be in the firing line.
Race 8
No. 1 – Mholi – He won last time over a mile and today he’s back over the same course and distance. He is definitely one to include because he certainly has a chance.
Race 9
No. 3 – Malangabi – She had a small setback and today she returns after a break. I think she’ll need this run.
