Ennion, others comment on their Greyville runners

Published by charl on July 30, 2010

HERE are some comments from trainers involved in the racing on Durban July Day to help punters at Greyville  with their race day flutters.

Greg Ennion has Sangria Girl running in the Grade 2 Gold Vase over 3000m.

This mare has made a remarkable recovery after being badly cut into in the Canon Gold Cup, as at the time Ennion wondered whether she would ever race again.

“We gave her some fast work on Monday and she came through it well,” he said. “She is sound and I have to take my hat off to the vet. She doesn’t take a lot of work and was ultra fit before the Gold Cup so she should be fine. She ran the last 900m of the Gold Cup virtually on three legs and was only 7,5 lengths back.”

Yadav Singh has just one runner on the day, Irish Eminence, but it comes in a Grade 1 event, the Premier’s Champion Stakes over 1600m.

He said, “He is working well, looking well and eating well. He is as good as anything in the field and will give a good account of himself.”

Alyson Wright only has one runner on the day, Isabella’s Princess, who runs in the ninth over 1600m and she said, “The 1600m is a bit far for her. She is off to stud after this run.”

Bennett Bulana has two runners, Road To War in the second over 2400 and Stage Star who has a very tough task at the weights over 1200m in the eleventh, and he said, “Road To War actually needs further than this. Stage Star likes 1200m, but is widely drawn. He has a 2,5kg claimer aboard so I’m hoping.”

Bart Rice has Royal Day in the Grade 2 Gold Vase over 3000m and The Big Ask in the eighth over 1400m and he said, “Royal Day is very well in himself, but he is an unknown over this trip. The Big Ask has a very tough task.”

Craig Eudey has three runners, Snappy in the first over 1000m, Thandolwami in the eighth over 1400m and Ice Pageant in the ninth. He said, “Snappy faces a very strong field but this is his best course and distance. Thandolwami worked very well with Anthony Delpech up yesterday (Tuesday) and Anthony was very happy with him. Ice Pageant found the going too hard at Scottsville last time and will prefer it at Greyville.”
