Published by charl on July 29, 2010
TOP tipster Rob Zackey’s back after another good tipping podcast last week. He discusses in detail with Charl Pretorius the superb 12-race programme on Durban July day at Greyville on Saturday and they briefly touch on the other weekend meetings. The countdown has begun to SA’s greatest race - good insights throughout, make notes!

INTERVIEW WITH ROB ZACKEY:
FAIRVIEW FRIDAY POINTERS:
Race 3: EYEOFTHEWORLD close to subsequent feature winner DJ DETZKY in penultimate, can win on that.
Race 4: Smart QUEEN TAMARA bids for a hat-trick, follow until beaten.
TURFFONTEIN SATURDAY:
RACE 3: SHEA SHEA has been well spoken of by Geoff Woodruff, should be suited to extra and could be a P/A banker COLCA CANYON a danger if he gets in.
RACE 4: My selection is INDIAN FIRECRACKER, improved in blinkers, but for the P/A I’d add MO PEPPER and LAHAK.
RACE 5: FAIR BEAU is capable of winning this with Fortune up, not a safe banker however, our runner KING’S DESTINY coming to hand and should throw out a challenge. Others prospects are THORA and GAME SHOW, THOMOND.
RACE 6: FORT PETERSBURG had horses like Rudi Rocks and July runner Russian Sage behind him when winning a feature last time, I think he will follow up today in a weaker field. I think a horse like LAKE ALBERT, though handily weighted, perhaps better on inside track. SIRIUS STAR looks the Alexander stable elect with Fortune on, and ABBOTTSBURY best outsider. Piere Strydom thinks ROYAL EXPRESS ran a decent race last week and will enjoy the mile, consider if you’re going against the Zaki runner.
RACE 7: See Greyville summaries.
RACE 8: QUIRITUS has improved since his Maiden win and this looks a beatable field, but SECOND WORLD has good form to sprinters like Private Jet and can win if he’s in the mood. SPECIAL AWARD taken to Durban for a strong sprint last time - faded against Two Tone but that could be the right line to follow - chance.
RACE 9: LITTLE TICH didn’t like Scottsville last time, I think he can atone today, but there are others who will give him a go - CASTANELLI is one of them, don’t leave out, also JOSHUA’S CALL, better than his recent run, SKINNY JEANS, impressive Maiden winner and coming back to form, and FEATURE FINDER.
GREYVILLE SATURDAY:
RACE 3: I like RUDI ROCKS, a big run last time after a rest, fitter now and can win it. PREDESTINATION ran a cracker of a race in the Gold Cup and must have a good chance my vote off his low weight. THANKS JOHN has had a good campaign and should give a good account. BOUQUET GARNI back to a more suitable trip, on his best form a big runner. Strydom on DANISH SILVER also to be respected.
RACE 4: TWO STRIKES has turned the corner and looks like a good sort in the making. SANGRIA GIRL is a game mare, she gives her best and is not out of it, while HOSPITALITY suffered interference in the Gold Cup and can atone, he is hard to peg back in front.
RACE 5: A few nice horses have bad draws, which gives the well-drawn favourite HAPPY ARCHER an even better chance and brings both FLAMING ALICE and especially LEGAL ACCOUNT into the picture. FOLLOW THE PIPER has a chance because she beat Mike Azzie’s JUNE BUG last time (she gets a run, include).
RACE 6: The stablemates KAVANAGH and PERANA should fight it out, the coupling my Pick 6 banker.
RACE 7: POCKET POWER is a great horse, he has a chance again, a win would delight the crowd, but I do prefer his stablemate RIVER JETEZ at the weights, and I fancy her strongly to win. We’ll be ignoring RUDRA (badly weighted), FABIANI (off form), ORBISON (last run so good it begs for a repeat, hard to assess on other form), RED RAKE (can’t make a case for him), ASLAN (just doesn’t inspire enough confidence), LOVE IS IN THE AIR (arguably lucky to be in the race), HAPPY VALLEY (nice sort but somehow I can’t see a horse improve from a fourth in a poor Vaal winter field a few runs ago to win the July, Mike de Kock’s talent and the gelding despite); CAPTAIN SCOTT (found wanting on several occasions but well in at weights), FLYING TRISTRAM (just simply don’t like him here, perhaps not suited to track), SERVICE ACE (hasn’t done enough), VERTICAL TAKEOFF (probably better further), and GOAT (very unlikely winner this class). IRISH FLAME is the leader of a great three-year-old crop, has risen to the occasion every time. BOLD SILVANO is better off with Irish Flame, Mike de Kock thinks 2200m could be too far, but this one can run. ANCESTRAL FORE is a good horse, very versatile, could be the surprise package with Neisius up. RUSSIAN SAGE is my best roughie, I give it a first four chance. LIZARRE has the draw against him, but as more or less the best weighted three-year-old and with Strydom om he rates a big chance. (Charl feels the draw is of zero significance). In summarizing, I think RIVER JETEZ is stronger ans better this year, I have a gut feel it will be Lloyd’s year, she has good things in her favour and I am bullish she will win.
ROB’S SELECTIONS: RIVER JETEZ FROM LIZARRE
CHARL: LIZARRE FROM FORT VOGUE
RACE 8: CASK was very impressive, we labelled him last time, he should go on and can follow up despite the draw.
RACE 9: Mike Azzie’s FLYINGWITHOUWINGS packs a lot of class, big weight against her, BET ON BLUE well weighted and drawn, AIR POCKET highly rated and set to improve.. IDLER next best.
RACE 10: Great race always, the Garden Province, and to my mind PRESTIC stands out a good bet. MOCHACHINO always thereabouts in big races, KIRIBATI makes appeal, from a formline that includes Rudi Rocka and Russian Sage, FLIRTAATION highly regarded,HERE TO WIN and IMPERIOUS STAR all the class and ability. But Prestic looks the one.
ROB’S P/A: (Poll will be big and July P/A’s always pay, take a percentage): 6/8/9/12 x 6/7/19 x 2/4/6 x 2/5 x 10/15 x 2/9/11 x 6/7/8.
QUARTET: JULY: FLOAT 10/.15 C FIELD.
